The forbidden clementine was jealous of the attention the red delicious apples received.

Snow White had made them famous with their toxic passage that sent her into a deep sleep.

It was a frosty triumph resented by the poor little citrus, so unassuming despite her glowing silence.

Anytime the clementine thought about her jealousy, she would shrivel up into a little orange ball.

It was no wonder no one really wanted to eat her.

Especially when the forest was filled with other delicacies to devour.

The blueberries burst with flavor. Then there were the raspberries,

so sweet, even as they shyly hid underneath the brambles.

And pears, almost perfect, with their crisp texture.

What did the clementine have to offer?

She was not nearly as popular as the orange.

Even grapefruits had more glamour than she did.

As the day turned into night,

the clementine rolled toward the sunset whose color mirrored her own.

But she wasn’t blushing like the sky.

Her face turned brown from the bruises and bumps she acquired.

The fading blues in the sky matched the blues in her heart.

Just then,

right when she thought her story was done,

she heard whistling in the distance, slowly getting nearer.

This is when she saw the Seven Dwarfs come marching around the bend.

One of them, whose name was Grumpy, picked her up as if she were a treasure.

He cupped the clementine in his hairy hands, inhaled her citrus scent, and gave out

a big sigh…

The clementine finally smiled.

All she wanted was to be appreciated,

bruises and all.
